Popping my dA journal cherry

Mon May 21, 2007, 11:04 PM
  • Listening to: "Forces (God Hand Mix)"-- Susumu Hirasaw
  • Drinking: Pepsi Jazz
Ages ago :icondamunch: tagged me for this six interesting facts meme and it took me evers to actually sit down and list some. ^^; But she gets my journal-cherry anyway because here it is, finally.

1. When I was first learning to draw I picked up how to draw a human figure from watching old school anime. In the long run it probably did as much harm as good since old school anime tended to have disproportionate limb lengths, which is something my astigmatism makes me struggle with anyway. XD

2. From the time that I was very small I’ve always been attracted to funky colors in make-up; this worked out pretty well since my brother tended to use me as chick-bait and he was attracted to nice, but somewhat trashy, girls who enjoyed painting me up like a little doll. One time in second grade I came into school with my nails done up from one of them and the boy I had a crush on said I looked like a vampire because of it. I took it as a compliment.

3. One of my biggest pet peeves is people pronouncing and/or using words wrongly and, if I’ve known the person long enough, I’ll correct them. The one notable exception to this is an old friend of mine who constantly misuses the word “sarcastic.” He uses it as an excuse every time he gives a bad one-liner and it fails to get a laugh.*
*It still twitches me every time but he’s the type that refuses to be corrected.

4. One year during prom weekend I went to a Chinese buffet with a fairly large group of friends. At some point one began to use his chopsticks as drum sticks and most of us slowly joined in to create an interesting impromptu musical performance. The other patrons of the restaurant actually enjoyed it and we got some applause.

5. In my cosplay work I love parts of projects that require hand-stitching. Even though it takes me a far longer time and it gets horribly repetitive the simplicity of it lets me zone out and has a very soothing effect on me. I’m really looking forward to the Bleach costumes I’ll be doing this year because all three require a whole bunch of braiding.

6. While I have no interest in ever LARPing, I’d love to cosplay some of my original characters someday. Some would be fairly easy (like wearing common clothes that I could mostly pull out of my closet already) and some would present interesting challenges (like those with extensive tattooing). There are some that I feel especially connected to and since, often times, that goes hand-in-hand with cosplaying a character for me, it feels like a natural step to take in my geekiness.

Rules:
"The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 Weird Habits/Things About Yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 Weird Habits/Things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "You are tagged" in their devPage comments and tell them to read yours..." etc.

I'm just going to tag SimplyKitten, because she is love and will probably actually do it.
